When what you don't want is what you need

This week was planned to be a family holiday week.  Hubby had time off and we hoped to spend quality time together doing our favorite activities as a family - games, reading, a hike, trips to visit family, and relaxing with friends. We thought it would be a great way to start the year and wanted to focus on each other and have fun!

Monday rolled around and BOOM - the sick hammer came down hard. Our boy and girl had major fevers and coughing, sneezing, droopy eyes, and very little sleep.  Plans change.

We spent the week taking shifts for sleeping and eating and rocking and comforting.  Quiet. Holding our children and soaking in the moments of stillness and closeness.  A bittersweet mix of complete exhaustion with the precious moments of snuggles and warmth.

I had hours to study their faces.  Her mile-long eyelashes and rosy cheeks - my angel. His forehead and chin - what a handsome boy. And my heart swelled with love.

It's not what we planned.  But we spent focused time with each of them. More time than we would have wrapped up in the busy activities.

Just snapped this.... peaceful sleep.
